This 20-minute Christmas program is a simple play for children grades K-5 to perform. Not only does it include scripture and a telling of the birth of Jesus, but it also includes comic moments within the script and a week-by-week rehearsal guide with prayers to share with all those involved. It can be a stand-alone program or be included as part of a larger Christmas event.
The Christmas program presents a comical and thoughtful insight into the prayer life of a modern family and of the characters in the Christmas story. The young boy in the story is troubled by the turmoil he sees and hears in the world. His father uses the Christmas story and the hope we find in Jesus to allay his fears and encourage his son’s prayer life. The father and son act as a sort of narrator in between scenes of the Christmas story from Luke 2. We get to meet two shepherds who are worried about their flock, Mary and Joseph who are making a stressful journey to Bethlehem, and an angel who brings good news. The angel recites scripture directly from the Bible, while the other characters’ lines are creatively interpreted from the Christmas story.
Scripture passages included are Luke 2:1-20.
