Simple and easy Christmas production! Enjoy the lighthearted interactions as Professor Hollymas takes three students on a Christmas journey and introduces them to the events surrounding the birth of Jesus. See Mary ponder the Angel Gabriel’s message. Hear the prophets Isaiah and Micah read scripture from their scrolls.
This production is 11 short scenes; most are 1-1.5 pages in the script. The main characters, the students and the professor, have most of the lines, and can either read or memorize lines. Notebooks and clipboards can be used to “hide” the script to help the reading be less obvious to the audience.
Scripture references are given throughout the play. Print out the scriptures in your church’s preferred version for your actors to read.
Biblical skits or readings are at the end of each scene. This is the best way to involve your younger children! Many of these characters have few or no lines.
Nine optional Christmas songs are listed in the script for congregational involvement during the production. These are great transitions between scenes.
If your children’s ministry is mostly younger children, this play can work great for you by enlisting the help of your teens and adults. There are plenty of ways to incorporate younger children as shepherds, townspeople, and angels.
Instructions are included for a simple, easy, no-sew, low-stress costume ideas. Outfitting your cast has never been easier!
If you don’t have time to memorize the lines, no worries! Five characters have the majority of lines. The rest of them have 0-3 lines. The main characters can keep their script on a clipboard or in a 3-ring binder and read their lines. It’s a classroom setting for the main characters, so books or clipboards fit the scene.
The set and stage design is very simple! The classroom needs tables or desks and chairs. The biblical skits require very little extra preparation. The nativity scene can be as easy as two chairs for Mary and Joseph, or a photo backdrop of a stable.
Minimum people needed: 10.
**Characters can be played by children, teens, or adults. 5 strong readers are the main characters and narrator; they memorize or read their lines. An additional 5 or more people portray 16 or more supporting characters, many of whom appear in just one scene.
