Advent is about more than counting down the days until Christmas. It’s an opportunity to help kids slow down and discover the hope, peace, joy, and love we celebrate as we prepare for Jesus.
Advent-ure gives kids a fun, hands-on way to experience prayer through moving, resting, making music, creating, and talking with God. Each station explores one of the four themes of Advent while showing kids that prayer doesn’t have to mean sitting still and being quiet!
This download includes 4 unique, kid-friendly prayer stations exploring hope, peace, joy, and love!
These prayer stations can be used in multiple ways, making this resource fully customizable. Use all 4 stations for an entire kids ministry or family prayer experience, set up individual stations as stand-alone activities, or incorporate them into a kids church service, Christmas event, Advent celebration, or midweek program. You can make each activity longer or shorter depending on what works best for your group.
Kids can move from station to station at their own pace, spending more time at the activities they connect with most. Some kids may hop from prompt to prompt, while others may want to sit quietly with a fidget or spend extra time decorating a card. Both are okay! The goal isn’t to race through every station. It’s to give kids space to spend meaningful time talking with God.
Each station includes a Scripture focus, simple prayer prompts, and an interactive activity designed to help kids explore a different way of praying.
The 4 prayer stations include:
- Hopping with Hope — Kids hop from star to star and use kid-friendly prompts to talk with God about what they hope for themselves, the people around them, and their world.
- Pausing for Peace — Kids take a sensory break with Play-Doh, coloring supplies, pipe cleaners, fidgets, or other calming materials while using prayer cards to slow down and talk with God.
- Jamming with Joy — Kids grab an instrument, choose a Joy Card, and make a joyful noise as they shake, stomp, clap, dance, sing, and pray!
- Loving Out Loud — Kids create Christmas cards for people in their community and pray for each person as they color, write, and decorate.
The stations are intentionally designed to look, sound, and feel different because prayer doesn’t have to look the same every time. Kids can pray while hopping across the room. They can pray while resting with a fidget. They can pray while making a joyful racket with a jingle bell. They can pray while creating something for someone else. Prayer is simply talking with God, and kids can talk with Him anywhere!
Each station can be completed in about 10–15 minutes, or kids can spend longer at the stations they connect with most. The included station signs are designed to help kids move through each activity independently, while volunteers can step in to read, encourage, and support kids as needed.
