Box office numbers don’t lie, and they tell us that superheroes are in right now. So why not give kids a devotional that uses this superhero fad to develop a super incredible faith?

Conquering Fear from RoseKidz Publishing is a 52-week devotional for preteens ages 10-12. Each week includes 6 days of lessons and activities to help kids become one of God’s superheroes. Each week has 1-2 Scripture-based devotionals for kids to read and respond to, and then the other activities for the week invite kids to explore the main idea in a variety of ways, including through art, building with Lego’s, journaling, and even decoding secret messages!

I love how the activities encourage kids to apply scripture in a variety of ways – every kid can find something they enjoy in this devotional! Since each page and activity are slightly different, it gives kids enough variety to keep them engaged.

I also really like the way Julia Ball, the author (and brains behind the ministrymom blog), set up the weekly main ideas, starting with the gospel and focusing on topics like who Jesus is, why He came to earth, what He did while He was here, and His resurrection. After laying that Christ-centered foundation, the rest of the devotional focuses on how we can live like Jesus by serving others, loving others, and telling others about Him. Plus, each week gives practical ideas for how to live that out right now – they don’t have to wait until they’re older to be God’s superheroes!

If you’re looking for a birthday gift, Christmas gift, baptism gift, or just a “I’m thinking of you” gift for any preteens in your ministry, be sure to check out Conquering Fear! On Friday, we’ll share a free activity from the book so you can really get a taste for what this devotional has to offer.
