As we head into the fall season, it often brings change. Change of routines as kids head back to school. Change in the weather as the temperature cools down and the days get shorter. Maybe even a change of ministry rhythms and events. But one thing that never changes? God’s Word. Which is why I’m excited to share a guest blog post this week from Tricia Machel, a DKM Vendor, who is passionate about helping kids dig into God’s Word. Plus, we’re celebrating that Tricia now has activity pages available for over 400 passages of Scripture!!! Find them all here or use the search bar to search for a specific passage, and read more about helping kids remember that God’s Word never changes below.
Fall… autumn… a season that echoes the pattern of life. The pattern of change.
Life is full of changes. We experience changes every single day:
- Weather
- Activities
- Health
- Relationships
- Stages of life
As we continually work through changes in our own lives as adults, there is a looming question before us… How do we help the children in our ministries learn how to navigate the ups, downs, twists, and turns of life?
When they come to us with a shattered heart because their friend just rejected them?
When they are terrified of what the new school year will bring?
When they feel deep disappointment over an unexpected change in plans?
When they are bursting with excitement (and maybe some hesitation) over a new school activity?
How can we help children through the mountain of changes they face each day? By teaching them how to be anchored to the only One who does NOT change!
- The Lord doesn’t change.
- His Word doesn’t change.
- His truth doesn’t change.
When my daughters were little, we would sit together each Sunday during the morning worship service in our small church. (In reality, my husband and I would sit while our girls would squirm on the pew, in front of the pew, under the pew.)
I often wondered, “How can I help our girls, as well as the other children in our church, become more engaged during the service? It’s not easy for a little kid to follow along with the sermon!”
I scoured the internet, looking for activity pages based on the main text of the sermon, worksheets that they could dive into with their crayons. And often, I found nothing. (Zechariah, anyone?)
God birthed a desire within my heart: a mission to help the children in our church (and beyond) jump into God’s Word, whether during a worship service, ministry time, or at home. There was a longing for children to learn, know, and anchor their lives to the truths of the Bible. That’s when Bible Studies for Kids was born.
These activity pages are intentionally created to get children into the Bible. Why? Because “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV)
But the power isn’t in the questions, the word puzzles, or any other activity page in the set. The power is in the precious, holy, living Word of God. The questions, the journal pages, the copywork, the word puzzles, and more are designed to point students to the truths of Scripture, to help them think about the passage, and to learn and apply it to their own lives.
So, as we journey through this fall season, a season of changes, may we train children to seek the Lord so that they may be anchored to the One who will never change.
“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” – Isaiah 40:8 (ESV)

Author bio: Tricia is living her dream job in Ohio (even though many days may not be very “dreamy”!) of being a wife and a mom. She and her husband have three daughters (2 teens and a tween!) who all do school at home. When she isn’t helping her girls with school or chauffeuring them to gymnastics, Tricia is often found taking care of the administrative tasks for her church, creating printables, or diving into photography. All by God’s grace and for His glory.
