Developing a child’s biblical imagination is a key element of their spiritual development, which is why I am STOKED for the newest Lent Devotional for Kids from one of my favorite authors: Wondering to Jerusalem: A Wonder-filled Lent Devotional For Kids.
In Wondering to Jerusalem, author Vanessa Myers invites kids to dive into their wonder and imagination as they journey with Jesus and His disciples to Jerusalem and the cross! Starting on Ash Wednesday and going through Good Friday, kids explore the events of Holy Week through a daily short Scripture reading, devotional explanation, and prayer prompt. Each daily devotional also includes wondering questions that prompt kids to put themselves in the Scripture passage and think more deeply about its events. Plus the extras like the Wondering Journal, Wondering Snapshot, souvenirs section, and printable stickers help kids turn the devotional into a travel journal as they explore Jesus’ last week on earth.
There’s even a bonus devotion for Easter Sunday!
Even though it’s a devotional book, it’s very hands-on. Kids get to create and complete their very own Scripture Mile Markers and “souvenirs” as they journey through the Lent season through the daily devotions and activities. The free printable stickers are easily accessed via a convenient QR code right inside the book (what kid doesn’t love stickers?), and there’s plenty of space inside the book itself for thoughts and ideas.
It’s fun. It’s simple. It invites kids to use their imagination to explore the last week of Jesus’ life, leading up to the cross. What more could you ask for in a kids’ Lent devotional?
