Fall is one of my favorite seasons in ministry. Families are settling back into routines, kids are excited about pumpkins and festivals, and there are plenty of natural opportunities to gather people together.

But as children’s ministry leaders, we have to add value to families’ lives, not just events on their calendars. So what if your fall ministry calendar did more than offer seasonal fun? With a little creativity and intentionality, your fall family events can become moments where parents and kids laugh, learn, and grow deeper in their faith together.

Here are 5 family events that incorporate an intentional faith element into the fall fun! Click on the title of each event to learn even more and download the guides for your ministry!  Find even more Fall Events for your kidmin here!

  1. Minute to Win It Family Faith Night – Through fun games and quick, practical lessons, families will explore how they can build lasting faith at home, one minute at a time. Throughout the 2-hour event, families will learn simple habits for prayer, Bible reading, and worship that they can implement at home, even in the middle of a busy schedule. For each faith habit, families will play a minute-to-win-it game, learn from Scripture, and have a family faith moment to practice the skill. They’ll laugh together, compete in some fun games, and leave with tools to grow in faith together!
  2. Fall Fiesta Family Event – Spice up your fall calendar with this 2-hour fiesta-themed fall family event! At your Fall Fiesta, families enjoy a time of games and fellowship, a tasty meal (themed meal suggestions included), and a guided family prayer devotion. After some fun crowd games and on-stage games, families learn about a special TACOS prayer method. Then, they’ll have the chance to practice it together, making this event an at-home discipleship training tool as well as a fun time!
  3. Blankets and Banana Splits Family Serve Event – Looking for a unique way to get families serving in your community? Look no further! The Blankets and Banana Splits Family Serve Event is a tangible and practical way for children in your church to serve children in their community! Families will be challenged to put Matthew 25:35-40 into action by remembering those in their community who may feel forgotten. This 90-minute event will empower children with a fun and simple way to serve, and it includes a fun celebration over a delicious, sweet treat!
  4. The Big Drop – During this event, families will play games, eat sweet treats and watch gravity do its thing as you drop stuff from way up high and watch it go KERSPLAT! Best of all, everyone will hear the story of Jesus’ first disciples and discover how we too should drop everything and follow Him.
  5. S’more S’more Prayer Event – The S’more Prayer Event is a prayer station event for kids or families that includes making and eating s’mores while learning more about prayer. Participants visit four s’more-themed stations: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. At each station, kids or families engage in creative prayer activities. After they have visited the prayer stations, kids or families enjoy a time of fellowship while making and eating s’mores.
