Do anyone else’s kids love pumpkins as much as mine do, or is that just at our house? Pumpkins are a fun fall item kids love, so let’s use pumpkins this fall to point kids to the gospel! Try one of these faith-based pumpkin activities at church or to send home with families!

  1. Pumpkin Crafts – If you’re looking for a quick craft that still points kids to the gospel, you’ve got lots of options! The Gospel Pumpkin Craft is a simple, budget-friendly craft that can be used during the fall to teach the good news of salvation. It comes with instructions and a printable template, so it’s easy to prep and easy to use. The Pumpkin Gospel (Shine Your Light) Craft has kids cut out an oval with a cross on it and glue it to a pumpkin to create a flap. When they lift the flap, they reveal the Shine Your Light Candle underneath. It works great as a small group activity, part of a lesson on shining your light, or a take-home activity for families to learn and grow together, and it includes a bonus coloring page. And if you want to lean into gratitude this season, the Gratitude Pumpkin Pocket Printable Craft helps kids grow a thankful heart. They’ll brainstorm everything they’re thankful for, write it on the provided pumpkin seeds, then create a pocket on the pumpkin to hold those seeds of thankfulness. It comes in full-color and black-and-white options, plus a bonus coloring page.
  2. Pumpkin Patch of Prayers – Each week, invite kids to write a prayer or prayer request on a paper pumpkin, then hang up the pumpkin in your ministry space. Keep adding all month long until you end up with a whole pumpkin patch of prayers! And you can equip families to make their own pumpkin patch of prayers at home with this resource.
  3. Shine Bright: Pumpkin Carving Family Devo – Pumpkin carving is already a fall tradition in most homes. This devotional walks families step-by-step through the process, tying each cut, scoop, and shine to a Bible verse, a short devotion, a prayer, and a discussion question. As they carve, they’re also carving out time with God as a family. It comes as either a one-pager or a set of 7 devotional cards, and each card takes less than 5 minutes, so it’s easy to fold right into pumpkin carving time. Learn more about the devotional here.
  4. A Full Sunday Morning Series for Fall: Pumpkin Patch Series (for preschool and elementary) – If you want to go deeper than a single activity, this 4-week series is built entirely around pumpkins and God’s love. It’s perfect for your preschoolers and elementary kids this fall, walking through how God picks us (1 Peter 2:9), God cleans us (1 John 1:9), God loves us (Psalm 139:13-14), and how we can shine for Jesus (Matthew 5:14), all tied together with the memory verse Hebrews 13:8. Each week includes a full lesson script, a craft, a game, story cards/slides, and a parent page. Find the preschool series here and the elementary series here.
  5. Pumpkin and PJs PNO – Host a Parents’ Night Out (PNO) where kids wear their favorite PJs and enjoy an evening of pumpkins and fun! Have pumpkin games, pumpkin snacks, and show a fun fall movie. Parents Night Outs are a great way to minister to the parents in your church, all while connecting with the kids in your ministry too. Let us take the planning out of your Pumpkin and PJs PNO event with this resource.
  6. Scripture Pumpkin – Invite families to decorate a pumpkin by writing scripture on it! Share a pre-determined list of verses with them to work through all month, or let them choose their own as they cover a real pumpkin in God’s Word! This family faith kit helps families dig into Paul’s letters from the New Testament. Each week focuses on one of Paul’s letters and includes 7 Bible verses, 28 total, that kids read and then write on a real pumpkin. It also includes a family devotion, a Scripture Pumpkin calendar, a pumpkin postcards activity, 4 pumpkin recipes, and 4 pumpkin coloring sheets. Find our version of Scripture Pumpkin here.
  7. The Big Drop Fall Event – Kids LOVE smashing things, and this special event lets them smash some pumpkins! This is a gospel-centered event kids will talk about all year long. It comes with a full promo package to build hype, pre-drop games, the main “drop” event with step-by-step instructions for a safe launch pad and drop zone, a short but powerful gospel message about the first disciples inviting kids to drop everything and follow Jesus, and an ice cream after-party to close it out. It’s flexible enough to run as a fall festival, a trunk-or-treat add-on, or a stand-alone outreach event. Learn more here.

One of our core values at Deeper KidMin is that we want to use things kids know and love to reach them with the gospel, and pumpkins are perfect for helping kids see and experience the gospel this fall! Find all of our fall resources (pumpkin-themed and not) here!
