If you serve in children’s ministry, there’s a good chance Holy Week looks a little different for you than most of the world. You’re thinking about volunteer schedules, cleaning up from Easter events, printing parent resources, gathering supplies, and running through the Easter Sunday morning plan in your head.
Don’t get me wrong; all of those details matter. Doing ministry with excellence is part of loving the families we serve. But sometimes we spend so much time preparing the Easter story for others that we forget to sit in its truth and power ourselves.
So here is a small Holy Week invitation just for you, kidmin leader: Before you send the next email or check off the next thing on your to-do list, take two quiet minutes and read Matthew 28:5–6 slowly: “Do not be afraid… He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.”
The women arrive at the tomb expecting grief and instead discover something amazing and unbelievable. I love that the first message spoken about the resurrection was “Do not be afraid.” This tells me that the women must have looked and felt terrified, even if it’s never explicitly recorded. Ministry leadership can carry quiet fears too. Will the volunteers show up? Are kids getting it? Is this making any difference?
The resurrection reminds us that the power has never been in our programming. The same God who raised Jesus from the dead is at work in the hearts of the kids you will teach this week. So pause long enough to remind yourself of that power you get to steward and share. Use this coloring page to sit in that Scripture and the beauty and grace and power in it.
The most impactful thing you bring into the room on Easter Sunday is a leader who believes the tomb is empty. So do not be afraid. Jesus is alive!
At Deeper KidMin, we love serving you while you serve kids, and it’s an honor to be invited into your ministry. Thanks for all you do, and let’s keep growing deeper together.
P.S. If you’re still pulling together a few final Easter ideas or planning ahead for summer, the DKM Marketplace is full of creative, engaging, and affordable resources FOR KidMin leaders, BY KidMin leaders. Find Easter resources here and our newest resources here.
