This week’s guest blog post is from Vanessa Myers, creator of Family Faith Builders, and she shares how she helps families be intentional with one of the busiest months of the year: May. We all know Maycember is real. It’s the time of year when May feels just as packed as December—sports, recitals, field days, awards ceremonies, and more. If you’ve got a senior (like me), then you’ve got EXTRA things to do on top of the regular end of school fun. I love all these senior things, but at the same time, I’m having a hard time watching my baby grow up and go to college!

Lots of activities happen in May! Families are stretched thin, and so are ministry schedules. I try to keep our children’s ministry calendar to just the normal Sunday activities. I don’t schedule any family events, and I even end our school year Bible study for 3rd-5th graders at the end of April.

Instead of adding more to their plates in May, let’s help kids find simple ways to stay connected to Jesus in the middle of the madness.

Here are 5 easy, everyday faith habits you can pass along to your kids and families this May. No prep. No pressure. Just practical ways to practice faith when life gets full.

1. One Verse a Week

Share a short Bible verse each week and encourage kids to say it out loud every day—while brushing teeth, tying shoes, or riding in the car.

“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10

2. Maycember Gratitude Game

Challenge kids to name one thing they’re thankful for each day in May and turn it into a quick prayer at bedtime.

“Thank you, God, for my teacher.”

3. Drive-Time Prayer

Encourage kids to say a short prayer while riding to school, sports, or practice.

“Jesus, help me do my best today.”

4. Nighttime “Yay God” Moments

At bedtime, invite kids to name one moment from the day that reminded them of God’s love.

“My friend shared with me—thanks, God, for kindness!”

5. Scripture Sticker Challenge

Give kids a sticker or card with a Bible verse. Have them stick it somewhere they’ll see it all week (lunchbox, notebook, water bottle).

Visual reminders help keep God’s Word close.

Even in the busiest seasons, we have an opportunity to remind kids that Jesus is steady, near, and worth focusing on. You don’t need more programming—just a few small tools to help families build faith right where they are. You’re doing important work, and these simple habits can make a lasting impact.
