Christmas week is one of the most beautiful and busiest times in children’s ministry. You’re juggling final lesson prep, family events, extra services, and all the last-minute details that sneak in when you’re not looking. You’re thinking about the parents who are stressed, the kids who are excited (or overwhelmed), and the volunteers who need encouragement. It’s a lot.
But in the middle of pouring out for everyone else, I want to remind you of something simple and important: before you give, receive.
Christmas isn’t just something you help others celebrate. It’s a gift meant for you, too. And while you may not have long stretches of quiet this week, you can carve out a few small moments to let God’s peace and presence meet you right where you are.
- Take five quiet minutes in your car before you walk into the church building.
- Pause for a deep breath between emails.
- Read a verse from Luke 2 before you finalize the craft supplies.
- Whisper a short prayer before you text your volunteers.
- Light a candle at home after the kids go to bed and just sit with Jesus for a moment.
These small practices don’t replace the deep rest your soul needs, but they anchor you in the one truth that matters most: you were never meant to carry this season on your own.
When you receive God’s presence, you lead from overflow instead of exhaustion. When you receive God’s peace, you reflect it in every hallway, classroom, and conversation. When you receive God’s strength, you’re able to pour out joyfully, not resentfully. And when you receive the wonder of the Christmas story for yourself, you naturally pass that wonder on to the kids and families you serve.
So as you step into one of the most meaningful ministry weeks of the year, don’t forget to pause long enough to receive. You’re doing sacred work this week, and God delights in filling you just as much as He uses you.
Jesus, thank You for coming close to us. In the middle of the busyness of this week, help me slow down long enough to receive Your peace, Your presence, and Your strength. Fill me so I can pour out with joy. Remind me that I don’t carry this season alone because you are with me. Amen.
